Strand Shopping Centre and registered Charity, Ykids have something exciting in-store for local shoppers in November! A big-brother style fundraising project will be taking place in the centre to raise awareness and funds for Ykids.
From Saturday 19th – 25th November, a member of the Ykids team will be living in an empty unit of Strand Shopping Centre for customers and shoppers to view! The brave individual will cut himself off for a week and live out his life in the shop, which will be specially furnished for the occasion from donations of tenants within Strand Shopping Centre. People will be able to watch this fantastic event live via webcam throughout the week on www.maninashop.co.uk and also view his blogging. Not only will he live within this shop, but he will also attempt to break 50 world records! During the week, meals will be given by local establishments and by Head Chef Gavin Williams of Not Just Cooking, who will also be taking part in some live cooking demonstrations. At the end of the week, a ceremony will take place where the “man in shop” will be freed. The contents of the shop will take part in a silent auction on Friday 25th November of which a special guest will host! Entertainment from Destiny Africa Children's choir from Kampala and a Clarinet Choir will be in the Strand from 12.30pm on the release day. Special guests, the Stig and Captain Jack Sparrow will also make an appearance on the day too!
Paul Melia is the individual from Ykids who will become the “man in shop” and people are able to sponsor him and donate through collection tins, justgiving (online) and textgiving. People can text SHOP12 £2 (or any amount) to 70070, visit www.localgiving.com/charity/ykids or search for Ykids on justgiving.com.
